The session will conclude with a few hints on the "Best Practices" of backup and restore. * Unlocking the Mysteries Behind Update Statistics Understanding the mysteries behind update statistics will enable DBAs to drastically reduce the time spent running update statistics. Focusing on what and how the information is collected for the optimizer will allow DBAs to tune update statistics. The talk concludes with practical examples of how DBAs can get 2x, 3x and even 4x speeds by tuning update statistics. * The CopperEye DataBlade - improve data load performance The CopperEye DataBlade is a software product that dramatically improves data load performance for Informix Dynamic Server customers dealing with large data volumes. The CopperEye DataBlade replaces the standard Informix B-Tree index with CopperEye's patent-pending indexing technology that exhibits significantly improved index maintenance performance - up to 25X. Using CopperEye, it is possible to eliminate scheduled downtime for data loads and index rebuilds, while extending the life of existing hardware. ______________________________________________________________________ Afternoon: 1:00-4:00 - DB2 Presentations * How to do your own DB2 performance review by David Beulke This session will discuss the research, process and impact of doing a DB2 performance review of your environments. An overall system, architectural, database and performance tuning review can dramatically reduce costs and improve application availability. By analyzing many processing performance conditions and detailing recommendations your can quickly improve database application performance, throughput and response time. This presentation will detail my activities at an outsourced client where we evaluated their production environment. This presentation will detail the improvements made in their system configurations, database designs and mainframe and UNIX Websphere applications reducing daily CPU consumption by 26%, a projected savings of over $8.6 million dollars in the first year. * Best Practices for your DB2 UDB database system by Dwaine R. Snow, IBM Senior Product Manager for DB2 UDB for Linux, UNIX, and Windows Come and learn from other people experiences in how to setup, design, configure, monitor and tune your DB2 UDB database system. Benefit from the experiences of the IBM Toronto Lab based consultin team, and their customer work, and avoid making the same mistakes that other users have made. This presentation will discuss the "Best Practices" for your DB2 UDB database system. ______________________________________________________________________ The meeting is open to all.
