Hi, We are using IDS 11.5 under RHEL 5.3 We have a dbspace of 20 GB size. But the rate of growth of our application is merely 0.05% per day. In our application, we are monitoring the database size to be of less than 80% and to raise the alarm appropriately. To check this feature i want to fill our database for more than 80% (roughly for around 17 GB) Can i use shell script to fill the database to the required size by using insert statements? But, doing this takes more time even to fill small size. Is there any other methods available to fill the database? Thanks in advance! Regards, Lakshmi
Hello,
for inserting test data you can use the informix sql-command LOAD or the
Informix utility dbload .
Or you could duplicate existing tables (insert into new_table select * from) ,
I would suggest to create the new_table as raw-table, without logging.

Andreas

Hi,
We are using IDS 11.5 under RHEL 5.3
We have a dbspace of 20 GB size. But the rate of growth of our application is

Can i use shell script to fill the database to the required size by using
insert statements? But, doing this takes more time even to fill small size.
Is there any other methods available to fill the database?
Thanks in advance!

Lakshmi

Hi Think about: You have limited the space for the database in 20 GB ? Or is total amount of the INSTANCE? If is limited to database, you could create a small db like 200 MB and fill it with data ... Or Create one or some tables with a large first extent, then, the space in the dbspaces will be filled even you do not put any row in the table. An idea is create a small instance (dbspace) and fill some table to rise the threshold ! You can use AGS's Server Studio's test data generation function to fill the table with test data for you. IDS is delivered with a full limited term evaluation license which you activate - so if you haven't tried Server Studio yet, it's not too late. Art Art S. That way you can test your script and alarms without wasting time and effort of filling your space with rubbish and then having to delete it and recover the space afetrwards. Keith
