You need to set up the ONCONFIG file, and validate that through the Parameters/Initialize menu in OnMonitor (which must be run as user informix to set up a system). You will need to have created the dbspace files with the correct permissions and the log files with sufficient permissions. If you are designing a big system, you'll need to know how you're going to add the extra dbspaces (onspaces), and how you are going to relocate the log files into different dbspaces, and how you're going to do your backups, and so on.
