Exists since a long time. Connects to Oracle (and even Sybase I think) via ODBC. Also there's a Gateway to connect via DRDA to DB2, even to DB2 on mainframe. And the latter one was even working via SNA, before DB2 on mainframe supported TCP/IP. You can connect your client directly to the Gateway, or you can have a co-ordinating IDS server do that (and let your clients connect to the IDS server). Using synonyms you can hide most of the "strange databases" from your application and things appear to them as if they were regular IDS databases and tables. (Some restrictions apply to "foreign" data types that are not mapped.)
