Storing formulas

I need to store mathematical formulas in some kind of file so that I can edit and use them. Does anybody know a cool way to do this, whithout having to go into complex coding?? Also I have to make my own program to edit the formulas, so any use of a already existing program is out of the question. Thanks for any help you can give. J Carlos
