shared memory not initiaized for INFORMIXSERVER

I'm removing the indexes and recreating them in my informix database and all the onstat commands were working fine. Now all of a sudden I am seeing this error when performing any onstat commands: shared memory no initialized for INFORMIXSERVER 'informixservername' Why is this?
