The default when your dbsession began is to NOT WAIT. If you do not specify a time value (in seconds), but simply execute 'SET LOCK MODE TO WAIT', the time-out value is infinity. Although Informix does do deadlock detection, there are still recommendations to using WAIT FOREVER as your lock mode for everything. It makes sense to use sparingly...
