We've been battling with network problems over here, and will install =
BMC next week to help us find the problem. Maybe you can help me with =
this one.
Solaris 8
IDS7.31FD3
=20
I am getting the following errors in my online.log. I monitored this, =
and my poll threads are ok as I am not getting this on a regular basis. =
But is does affect very important applications, which we cannot afford =
to drop.
=20
Any ideas ? Anyone had a similar experience ? We work ok most of the =
time, but drop sessions (telnet AND odbc) every now and then, and we =
can't pinpoint the problem - it's like it keeps moving around.
=20
=20
We tested the network by plugging a user directly into our SUN server =
with a spare network card (peer-to-peer). She worked fine and didn't =
drop session anymore.
BUT - to make things weird - I have a cron running on this same server =
opening tcp connections to Informix, and this will be unable to open the =
tcp connection about once or twice a week - doesn't make any sense.

This error might indicate that the database server has terminated, or a
problem might exist on the network itself. Check that the network is
functioning and that the server is still running.

An operating-system error code with the meaning shown was unexpectedly
returned to the database server. Look for other operating-system error
messages that might give more information. If the error recurs, please
note all circumstances and contact Informix Technical Support.

Check your open file limits :
run sar -v 5 5 and see if there are any entries under "ov".
