Re: Why do I need New Era?

All this talk about the cost of NewEra is indicative of the fact that INFORMIX want to make as much money as possible out of this product. Who can blame them? But what about the small users. The poeple who have an idea that they would like to develop a product for the future. It might not yet be in a form which can be defined, it's just an idea they would like to play with. If they are told that their potential end-user price will be at least $500 per seat they will obviously think twice about using the product. I am in the process of trying to piece together a potential application. I cannpt say more about the application at this time for commercial reasons, suffice it to say that it is an add-on to informix databases. To start with I tried developing the application in HST but found that this route merely produced a very slow application, and the operating characteristics of the potential application preclude slow response timings. I then thought about NewEra, but the cost per seat is prohibitive, as a competitive product costs less than $500 per seat anyway. So, now what am I doing? I'm looking at alternative products from other sources. I do not think I'm unusual in that respect.
