Hi Every one , I have installed IDS version:9.4( the zip file which I have downloaded from IIUG site )in my system. The same zip file I have used to install in my Laptop also. It was successfully installed. But when I am trying to initialise the IDS for the first time , its giving me message that Error building the sysmaster database!!!! Not only with the IDS 9.4 version , but the same problem is with IDS7.2 also. Its working properly in my system. But giving me the same message "Error building the sysmaster database" in my Laptop. How can I rectify this problem? Can any one tell me .. I have enough free space in my Laptop(around 20GB) Thanks and Regards, Sobha --------------------------------------- Sobha Rani Cheruku IBM India Software Labs Lab Services Team EGL Block B,4th Floor Bangaore-INDIA Email:scheruku@in.ibm.com ---------------------------------------
This happens sometimes during initialization. You can usually fix it by bringing the engine online (it's working, it's just that that sysmaster pseudo tables are not in place and the server itself doesn't need them) then run the buildsmi script in $INFORMIXDIR/etc. It will drop the partial sysmaster database and rebuild it. That almost always works. Art S. What is the exact 9.40 version? If the sysmaster build fails an output file gets generated in %INFORMIXDIR%\\\\etc - something like buildsmi_%INFORMIXSERVER%.out - can you scroll to the end of this file and post the error it reports? How did you try and initiliaze the sysmaster database? As part of the installation or manually afterwards? If manually, what was the command you used? If it was the installation program that reported an error during installation, it usually means sysmaster build was ok (you won't have a buildsmi_*.out file), but it had trouble created the data dbspace and sbspace. If that is the case it's more likely a bug which is fixed in a later version. > This happens sometimes during initialization. This only happens if something is wrong, like a specific bug which has either been fixed or needs to be (I don't believe there any extant bugs in sysmaster initialization), a problem with the command used to manually initialize IDS, a resource problem on the machine like memory or disk space, a registry corruption issue on the machine, an version incompatibility between IDS and the OS, a hardware problem on the machine...
