Informix Connect woe
Posted in 2006
Neil Truby hit "INFORMIXSERVER not listed in sqlhosts" from a Business Objects ODBC app after moving/upgrading a customer database (7 to 10) and renaming the server in Setnet32. Adding the new server worked, but deleting the old entry brought the error back. Suggestions were to check for multiple INFORMIXDIR\\bin entries in PATH and to verify the INFORMIXSERVER default-server setting in Setnet32. Running ilogin with no parameters showed the old server name still being returned as the default (apparently from the registry); re-adding the obsolete server entry in Setnet32, even though unused, restored connectivity. Neil considered this a bug and didn't test a newer Informix Connect.

I'm having a nightware with Informix Connect (Setnet 32 version is 9.53 2.81TC3). We've just moved a customer's database from one location to another, upgraded it from 7 to 10, and changed the connection names. Trying to change the connection worked and tested OK, but I just get a generic message "INFORMIXSERVER not listed in sqlhosts when I try to get thje ODBC application (Business Objects) to use the changed definiton. I got connected to anther PC and almost immediately the messages were different. Instead of getting the "INFORMIXSERVER not listed in sqlhosts" message, it old me exactly which one. This was quite correct as on the new PC I had only the old server defined. Added the new one and - Presto! - the reports started working, and I could see the sessions in the IDS back-end. So I removed the old server via setnet and there my troubles began. Back to the same, crap old "INFORMIXSERVER not listed in sqlhosts" message, and I've not got past it since. I've checked the registry and everything and the INFORMIXSERVER settings *are* there. I just don't know why it won't work, and why it did and why what I did caused it to stop. Any ideas? Hi Neil. Check your PATH environment variable. ie) Launch DOS prompt execute set path Are you seeing sevral %INFORMIXDIR% ? (c:\\informix\\bin;c:\\progra~1\\informix\\bin...) If you have sevral %INFORMIXDIR%\\bin, remove unused %INFORMIXDIR%\\bin Just my $0.02 Regards. -- Tsutomu Ogiwara from Tokyo Japan. >From: "Neil Truby" <neil.truby@ardenta.com> >To: informix-list@iiug.org >Subject: Informix Connect woe >Date: Tue, 19 Sep 2006 22:48:42 +0100 > >I'm having a nightware with Informix Connect (Setnet 32 version is 9.53 >2.81TC3). > >We've just moved a customer's database from one location to another, >upgraded it from 7 to 10, and changed the connection names. >Trying to change the connection worked and tested OK, but I just get a >generic message "INFORMIXSERVER not listed in sqlhosts when I try to get >thje ODBC application (Business Objects) to use the changed definiton. > >I got connected to anther PC and almost immediately the messages were >different. I saw this error with Business Objects if environment variable INFORMIXSERVER was not set in setnet32 or set to old server Neil Truby wrote: > I'm having a nightware with Informix Connect (Setnet 32 version is 9.53 > 2.81TC3). > > We've just moved a customer's database from one location to another, > upgraded it from 7 to 10, and changed the connection names. > Trying to change the connection worked and tested OK, but I just get a > generic message "INFORMIXSERVER not listed in sqlhosts when I try to get > thje ODBC application (Business Objects) to use the changed definiton. > > I got connected to anther PC and almost immediately the messages were > different. But INFORMIXSERVER is set by the setnet thingy, isn't it? WIll have a look. Thanks Neil

Once this was there, and even though it wasn't used, the connectivity was found. I found this out by running ilogin and providing no parms. It pulled back the old server name as the default (don't know where it was getting this from but suspect the Windows Registry on the grounds that I don't understand it and view it as a "Here be Dragons" area). Clearly this is a bug but I haven;t got as far as discovering if a newer version of Informix Connect will fix it. rgds Neil
