ISQL Command-line Syntax.

TO: Al Parker RE: Your query about running ISQL from a ksh shell script. Al, I cannot give you precise instruction in ksh shell script writ- ing, however, I believe that the Korn Shell is similar to the Bourne Shell in it's construction. If I'm wrong I've wasted a little time and somebody will say I'm all wet. So what, it's been done before and will be done again. In the Bourne Shell: Create the filename: test.query, make the file executable by modifying it to RWXR_X___, that is Read-Write-Execute for you the owner, Read-_-Execute for your group, and None for all other users. Open the file with the VI Editor or some other ASCII text editor and enter the following script. isql -s database_name -fq form_name <return> The "-s" is the silent option which strips out the informix headers in the screen. The "-f" calls the perform options from the normal perform menu, in this case the "query" option. The form_name is the name of the perform file you wish to run. When the query is finished and the form is exited the terminal will be returned to the previous task prior to running the shell program. With this type of shell scripting you can create your own custom menus restricting users by menu access to specific database functions. Good Luck. I hope the Korn Shell is as close to the Bourne Shell as I think. Michael S.
