How are Float data types stored?

Does anyone out there know how Float and SmallFloat datatypes are stored in INFORMIX or for that matter how one would typically go about storing floating point numbers. I have the following examples to offer: INFORMIX(HEX) Actual Number _____________ _____________ 000000000000e03f 0.50 000000000000e0bf -0.50 000000000000d03f 0.25 6666063f 0.525 0000000000001440 5.00 000000000000e33f 0.59375= 0.5+0.0625 +0.03125 I've already checked the IEEE standard to decode the 'e03f' INFORMIX repre- sentation for 0.5 - It doesn't pan out. Maybe I'm missing something? Help, jcantu@its.bldrdoc.gov
