(Channeling Serge) - Yes - and at $153 USD per PVU (not the $15,300 USD per PVU that Capt Pedantic reported) (Channeling me) The Captain's math is also a little dated For the older Intel cores, the individual PVU rating is 50. So 4 x Intel Quad Cores = 4x4x50*153 = $122,400 For the newer Nehalems however the individual PVU rating is 70. So 4 x Intel Quad Cores = 4x4x70*153 = $171,360 (BTW - the new Nehalems are very, very, very fast) (Channeling evil me) For those interested, Oracle's cost would be (on either set of chips) 4x4x.5*11,500 = $92,000 The IBM price does include one year of support, uplifting Oracle equivalently get you to $112,240

Newer Intel Cores are 70 PVUs each (for a total of 140 PVUs per dual core socket, or 280 PVUs per quad core socket). And yes, that does represent a 40% price increase Interesting enough, the new Power6 Cores went from 100 PVUs per core (200 PVUs per dual core socket), to 120 PVUs per core (240 PVUs per dual core sockets). So only a 20% price increase on the Power6s, which actually makes them a great deal vs the newer Intel kit (which is, BTW, IMHO, much faster) The newer SPARC cores are 50 PVUs each (or 30 for the T1's), however as they only start with quad core sockets, they are effectively 200 PVUs per socket (120 respectively)
70 PVUs now for the newer multi core Intel processors vs 50 PVUs for the older ones? Isn't it nice how they slid that one in? Again, they only time I heard about this was just now on this list. I just downloaded the PVU table and sure enough, on April 1st this went into effect - no joke. My gripe is with the lack of anouncement - again.
