Rename Informix IDS 7.3 Instance

Hi. I would like to know what I have to do to modify an instance name in Informix Dynamic Server 7.3, including what files to modify and in what order and wheter I have to do it cold or warm. Thank you all. Alan

Assume Unix. Define what you mean with rename instance. if you want to have a different name/port/whatever to access it: shut it down; edit $INFORMIXDIR/etc/$ONCONFIG look at values after: -->> DBSERVERNAME -->> DBSERVERALIAS (after DBSERVERALIAS you can add a new name. separate it with ,) Then edit $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts (or $INFORMIXSQLHOSTS) to modify the values you have changed/added in onconfig. the first col in sqlhosts represents the a value in DBSERVERNAME, DBSERVERALIAS in there you also find the name of tcp service used incase of a tcp connection,if you change this, then make sure it is also in /etc/services. Check if your env var $INFORMIXSERVER needs to be changed since you may have modified it above. Then start it again. Superboer.
