Because you could access the data through methods other than SQL (Se data was accessible via C-ISAM calls). I wonder if the availability of other APIs (e.g. Libmi) makes IDS no longer CODD-compliant? More importantly, does anyone really care? Why does Mr. Codd get to decide what is a relational database and what isn't?
