The other way is to use HWindow Manager. When we were using exceed with MSW-Manager we had problems with Continuus which is our project management system, since in MSW-Manager mode all X-Window features are not available. Then we sitched to HW-Manager. We never tried Informix HPL under MSW-Manager but it runs without any problem under HW-Manager.
