If you had read a few lines further down you would also have seen the following: "Visual Cafe is slated to release at the end of November '96, and will not include dbANYWHERE. A more advanced version bundled with dbANYWHERE, called Visual Cafe PRO, is expected to release in December of '96, and include data connected control auto-creation that will generate Java code that connects to dbANYWHERE servers." So now you are confused - and worried????? Aren't these products released yet? Or what is Symantec talking about here? Other places they are talking about the "Watcom" database - it doesn't even exist. The company doesn't even exist any more. Is Symantec gone wild? It isn't uncommon to forget to update parts of a web site. Virtualy every web site have this problem. And the news release of the strategic alliance between Informix and Symantec was dated April 2. That was this year. If I where Symantec I wouldn't put it up in big letters on my web site until I had products that could be delivered. I would be very carefull about comitting the same error Informix have lately about selling products that where not possible to deliver. And the Mac was included in the news release. Symantec is fairly agressive on supporting the Mac as well as MS Windows. However Roaster's Java developement system sure looks like a very good alternative for Mac users (from a cursory glance at their web page only). As we do not use Mac's it's not right for us, but may be for you. There are also several other contenders and as they are all working very hard it remains to be seen which will be the best and which will be most popular - both important selection criteria.
