onbar backup to file restore from file
Hi,
Just want to ask if onbar can be redirected into file.. instead of tape... I
know ontape can be redirected to file by setting LTAPEDEV and TAPEDEV, but not
should about onbar.
Any idea?, i'm experimenting the backup restore procedure.

The target device for onbar is set up in the storage manager. Onbar is just
an intermediary between the engine and your storage manager (ISM, netbackup,
legatto networker, tivoli, etc.).

Hi,
ON-Bar always works with a Storage Manager (SM).
(The exception is external backup and restore, but
that is a completely different story.) Therefore ON-Bar
cannot be configured to backup to file. It sends the
backup to a SM and receives restore data from a SM.
However, it is possible to configure an SM to put the
backup onto files (instead of tapes). At least with the
Informix Storage Manager (ISM) this is not too difficult. Still
for a restore the SM will be needed also. I.e. it is not
possible to restore from such files without SM, because
the SM has to read the files for restore and then hand
the data to ON-Bar...
For configuration of ISM see the "Storage Manager
Administrator's Guide" manual.
