Multi-Threading in Informix 7.2

We are currently trying to get multi-threaded access working with Informix 7.2. We are experiencing difficulties with this because informix tech support has told us that we need DCE thread libraries. I'm not sure I understand why (I guess they think they have a good reason), but can anyone shed some light on exactly what components we need and where we might get them from?
