Page 1-521 Informix Guide to SQL Syntax Version 7.2, Volume 2 The benefits of the disabled mode are as follows: You can use the disable mode to insert many rows quickly into a target table. Especially during load operations, updates of the existing indexes and enforcement of referential constraints make up a big part of the total cost of the operation. By disabling the indexes and referential constraints during the load operation, you improve performance and efficiency of the load. This to me implies that indexes are not updated in this case. The question was can he turn off index updating during a data load so that his inserts are not slowed down. This command just disables UNIQUE index criteria reporting it does not prevent the index from being updated. Art S. Kagel
