You don't actually say whether other programs are running into these locks. If they are and you haven't locked the table then you have a bug and you should call Informix. I suspect that they don't and you are seeing these locks when monitoring the engine. Read the section on locking in the Online Admin Guide which will explain how these "shared" locks are placed and you can quickly work out why. Note to Informix: I was disappointed to see that this section on Lock structures in Online appears to have disappeared from the 7.1 documentation.
