ANSI Database questions.

Hello all, A couple of quick questions: 1) how can I check to see if a database in in ANSI mode? 2) if the database is in ANSI mode, how do I change it not to be in ANSI mode? // Foo Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
Hi Foo.
(1). In onmonitor. Select the "Status" menu, then "Databases". All
databases for the instance are shown. The last column is the "Log Status".
An "A" in that column will indicate the database is ANSI.
(2). A couple of ways. IDS generally forces you to do a level 0 archive
when you change logging mode (except when changing to "no logging"). ontape
is an "ad hoc" archive tool, so I find it an easy choice. When logging in
as informix and root (with the right environment variables in place), at the
command line, type "ontape -s -<mode> <database>", where <mode> is "N" for
no logging, "U" is for unbuffered logging and "B" is for buffered logging.
<database> is of course the database to apply this to.
Be warned that changing between ANSI and other modes may have some
implications for the application(s) driving the database. In particular,
transactions are handled diofferently in ANSI mode databases. So be very
careful.

1) use onmonitor
2) You should export DataBase and recreate it. You cannot use ontape to
change logging mode from ANSI.

I believe you can change the logging modes as a switch during a log
backup.
Like:
ontape -a -B
for buffered logging.
This switch (-B) can be used I think when doing a log backup or it might be
a level 0 backup. Just check out the switches for the ontape command.

Yes, you're right. You can change logging mode with ontape
With ontape, you can change logging mode
from no logging, buffered logging, unbuffered logging
to no logging, buffered logging, unbuggered logging, ANSI mode logging.
However, you cannot change logging mode from ANSI mode logging to another
logging mode without recreating Database.
Check out IDS Administrator's guide and give it a try. ;-)
