Neil, If your version of Informix supports an 8MM tape drive, you may be able to get a DLT tape subsystem that can emulate an 8MM drive. It takes the SCSI commands and converts them into commands that the DLT understands. This may allow you to use a DLT with the 8MM driver and the backup utility in your version of Informix. TTI (Transitional Technology, Inc.) manufactures a DLT tape subsystem with an intelligent board inside that does the emulation. They are headquartered in the US and can be reached at (714) 693-0225. Their UK office is in Banbury and the telephone number is (44) (295) 269000. If you call them, make sure you tell them which platform you are running and they should be able to tell you if their DLT with 8MM emulation will work for you.
