The connect to the database is different with Informix. Oracle manages users itself, which means that you can connect to the Oracle database with a user id, that is different from your current login in Unix. For this reason there is the CREATE USER statement, which you will not find in Informix. You can compare the connect in Informix with the connect as an OPS$ user in Oracle. The handling of privileges in Informix is compareable to Oracle. It is all done with the GRANT and REVOKE commands like you know it from Oracle. In addition to the "regular" users there is the user PUBLIC with the properties mentioned in the other answers to your question. If you like, tell me more about your progress with Informix. What do you think of it ? Do you also, like me, miss some very nice Oracle functions (e.g. DECODE, UPPER etc.) ? In Informix you have to do all of this stuff on your own by writing stored procedures or something like that. It should definitely be in the SQL standard. So, what do you think ?
