table locking problem

We are having a problem with tables getting locked when the application crashes. We have a PowerBuilder application which accesses an Informix Online 5.0 db. If PowerBuilder causes a general protection fault in Windows (not an infrequent occurence), Informix locks the table it was accessing at the time. I suppose this means the transaction was interrupted. If you don't explicitly rollback the transaction,does Informix lock the table? How do I get around this? Please rsvp via email.
