FoxPro vs. Informix

We have done some major development in Informix and a few small projects in FoxPro. The speed of Foxpro is incredible but the flexibility is not. We tried to write the Foxpro system to mimic the Informix applications we have developed and had little success. We were able to get most of the major points duplicated (a VERY simple query be example in a data entry screen) but the response time was good only if we explicitly wrote our code to use the index we created. The index procedure is also rather cumbersome and requires you to do a lot of work. Also, the best speed of the Foxpro app was only marginally better than a well written 4gl app with the 4gl app having flexibility and speed across the range of flexibility (Everything Informix does, it does rather quickly). The foxpro app was either blindingly fast, or we gave up waiting for it. Keep in mind, real world solutions involve more than just populating databases. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Informix Premier Var -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Miguel A.
