Trouble with synonym on a remote view
Posted in 1999
Hi Informixers, IDS 7.30UC6 on Siemens RM 400, Reliant UNIX 5.43C20: Two Informix instances on the same machine. In a database on the first instance, I had a view that was referenced by a synonym from a database in the second instance. This worked just fine. Now I had to change the original view definition to include an extra field. I dropped and recreated the view, but the synonym still shows only the old structure, the new field (added at the bottom) doesn't show up in SELECT statements. However, an "INFO COLUMNS FOR <synonymname>" shows the correct view definition! Even if I bypass the synonym definition and issue a direct SELECT on the remote view (SELECT * FROM <dbname>@<servername>:<viewname>), I get the same error. Dropping and recreating the synonym, even doing a complete "UPDATE STATISTICS" on both databases didn't help. From another database on another server, I can do a SELECT on the new view (remotely) just fine! Could it be that the old synonym/view definition is lingering somewhere in the sysmaster database? What puzzles me even more is that I had run across similar problems in the past and was able to solve the problem, but not this time!
