} } Subject: IBM Publishes First TPC-C Benchmark on Open Systems } } } On Tuesday, February 2, 1993, IBM released the FIRST TPC-C benchmark results } executed on open (non-proprietary) systems. The next day, February 3, 1993, HP } released the second set of TPC-C benchmark results on open systems. Both } benchmarks used INFORMIX-OnLine as the database management system. Informix is } the only UNIX relational database product to be used as part of a TPC-C } benchmark to date. Internal performance bulletins summarizing these two } benchmarks will be sent to each sales office as part of next week's Falcon } Mailing. Attached is an electronic version of the information relaying the IBM } TPC-C results for the RS/6000 POWERserver 570: } } ------------------------------- Attached email -------------------------------- } } On February 2, 1993, IBM published the results of an important } industry-standard benchmark on a new model of the RISC System/6000 using } INFORMIX-OnLine version 5.0 for the DBMS. This benchmark is the TPC Benchark } C, as defined by the Transaction Processing Performance Council, of which } Informix and IBM are both members. IBM performed the TPC Benchmark C test on } the RISC System/6000 POWERserver 570 system. } } } Significance of These Benchmarks } -------------------------------- } These are the FIRST TPC-C bencmark results published by ANY vendor on an } open (non-proprietary) system. They are also the FIRST TPC-C results published } by IBM for their UNIX systems, and the FIRST TPC-C results published by IBM } using a third party DBMS. These results represent the best TPC-C } price/performance numbers in the industry to date. These facts testify to the Hey Bill, These results are also the worst TPC-C results published by IBM using a third party DBMS. They are also the only results (in case you didn't get it). j. _____________________________________________________________________________ Jack Parker - Contractor | Hewlett Packard, BSMC Boise, Idaho, USA| I've forgotten more than jparker@hpbs2651.boi.hp.com | I ever knew (208) 323-5388 (W) (208) 384-1623 (H) | _____________________________________________________________________________
