The output of marketing is being dissected in search of a glimmer of hope that IBM is not going to do to Informix what Microsoft did to Fox. IBM should be thankful they are still searching. Based on the number of requests I have received to teach Informix-to-Oracle classes I'd say someone might consider doing more to help these folks than just trying to pacify them by damning their product with faint praise. Am I wrong? Perhaps. I can't see the number of new Informix licenses sold by the IBM salesforce to non-Informix customers in the last few years. That would be the one thing that might convince them that this isn't just an exercise in wringing the last few drops of blood from the turnip. -- Daniel A.
