The absence of ODBC from shipped tools + the lack of ODBC support in some of the tools offerings (eg HST) gives the wrong message : only use the tools if you have an Informix database. The press releases suggest Mr Informix's New Era marks a re-emphasis by the company on its tools offerings. What better way to make it clear that the tools are industry leaders than by allowing (strike that - read encouraging) the use of those tools against the competitor's b/ends. IMHO, shipping ODBC with the product would go some way to achieving this.
