Help Quick - ONTAPE (is my backup still good)
Posted in 2003
Topics: Backup & Restore
I hope someone has an answer quick, because I can't find it
in the IDS
7.3x Admin Guide, nor Archive and Backup Guide.
We are running a Level 0 Archive to our DLT drive. Another Power User
logged on and attempted to change the logging status and issued the
command "ontape -s -L 0 -B databasename". When prompted to mount the
tape by the ontape utility, the realized that the tape parameter
wasn't "/dev/null" and CTRL-C out of the program. The ongoing Level 0
was not interrupted. The fact that they got to the point of being
asked to mount the tape, to the same device that our leve 0 was
running out to, and they broke out of the program, would this impact
the integrity of our Level 0?

It depends on wheither the OS let two processes access the same tape. It's
probably OK. But why risk it? Assume that it is corrupt and rerun the
level 0.

Hi,
no. I don't think so.
You can check your IDS message log (online.log file, see
MSGPATH in your $ONCONFIG file ...). It should only
contain messages about begin and end from the correct
archive. There should not be any message from the bogus
archive attempt.
Regards,
Martin
