avoiding disk sorts or usage of temp spaces

Hello, our database server has a lot of memory. I would like to use some of that memory to avoid disk sorts. Is there a possibility to tell the database server to do bigger sorts in memory (environment variables, onconfig parameters)? Further more I could provide more memory than the current size of temp spaces. Is there a possibility to make IDS using memory instead of temporary disk spaces? Regards, Andreas Kutsche
Hi,
yes, starting with 9.40.[UWHF]C4 there is a new ONCONFIG variable
DS_NONPDQ_QUERY_MEM <size in kbyte>
this parameter can be used to raise the current limit of sort memory for
non PDQ queries (128 kbyte). Check the release notes for more information.
Before 9.40.FC4 you could workaround this issue by using PDQ, but I
would not recommend it.
Hope this helps
