How to create stored sql procedure for Informix database

Hello everyone, I am a beginner in database application. I need to use JDBC callable statement to execute a stored procedure in informix. This stored procedure need to check records in the database and generate a new and unique record ID to the request from client whenever a new record needs to be inserted. How do i create a stored procedure on informix database ? The informix database runs in a unix server. Any help is appreciated. regards Andrew
