Re: Accessing remote tape drive

I have used host:/dev/rmt/0m syntax with ontape in OnLine versions 5 and 7
many times. It sometimes runs a little slower but it works.

Is there a trick to accessing a remote tape drive with Ontape?
As far as I know, you can't access a remote tape drive using NFS. I
don't know how Ontape intends to do this. The only directives in the
OnArchive manual are to set TAPEDEV to host:device/path in the onconfig
file. But there are no clues as to how Ontape is supposed to actually
access the tape drive. My attempts so far have failed, and an Informix
engineer had no hints either.
I tried mounting the device via NFS, but couldn't open the device which
was mounted locally.
Any help *much* appreciated.
