The company said that its net income was $4.9 million, a increase of three cents per share. The profit was six cents a share above the consensus estimate of a three-cent per-share loss published by First Call Corp. Revenue for the quarter was $167.2 million, compared with $149.2 million in the year-earlier quarter. The upswing is particularly impressive for Informix, which now operates under tighter accounting rules. Bob Finocchio, Chairman and CEO of Informix, "managed the numbers very carefully," said James Mooore, analyst with BT Alex Brown. However, Informix, may have stabilized, but the company still faces challenges. SOP 97-2 outlines criteria for when a sales is a sale and when product has been delivered. Informix put an end to the "all-you-can-eat" deals in which it front-loaded revenue from multiyear contracts. According to Bob Finocchio, Informix CEO, he said those deals contributed to their financial mess last year. The Informix Dynamic Server manages digital content by storing data such as scripts, contracts and associated program information and attaching it to specific frames so that all the information about a particular program is kept in one place. Other broadcasters, like Radio Televisione Italiana (RAI), have followed the BBC's lead. Also, using the Informix Dynamic Server is the Associated Press and GTE.
