ondblog

Hi there...got a question about ondblog used to temporarily turn logging
off for a database.
I'm trying to run an index cluster/update statistics job that was filling
my logs past the LTXHWM highwater mark. I know I could up the parameter,
but as the database continues to get bigger, the cluster/update time is
going to grow as well. So, I figured I could turn logging off, run the
operations, and then turn it back on (since I'd be doing my zero-level
then anyway).
I'm using onbar, so was told that "ondblog nolog <dbname>" is the way to
turn logging off--and also that it takes effect immediately. Well, I
tried running it this Sunday, and it just sat there for about four hours,
apparently doing nothing. I finally got worried, since while it was running,
it was apparently locking some system resources (trying to get a form listing
gave an ISAM "table is locked" error). So, I killed the ondblog process,
and ended up shutting down and restarting Informix to make sure it was
cleared out.
The only entry I saw in my log was a line in the bar_act.log that said it
had started to turn logging off, but no notification that it had finished,
or was doing anything. Should it have been taking this long? Is there
any way I can track what ondblog is doing?
