I-Star setup query

We have 2 HP's running HP-UX 9.04 and Informix Online 5.01, with I-Star between them. We have setup I-Star as per the manual This requires that the the hosts are host equivalent or that each user has a .rhosts file in there home directory. I want to get away from this if possible. Currently we have entries in /usr/informix/etc/sqlhosts, /etc/services, /etc/hosts.equiv, and the sqlexec daemons are started from /etc/rc at boot time. Other than using personal .rhost files is there any way to avoid the host equivialancy issue? Is it possible to have incoming I-Star sql requests to a tcp socket controlled by inetd, having an entry in /etc/inetd.conf which which would have to execute a script/program which set TBCONFIG and then started an sqlexec daemon. Is it possible to have more than one sqlexec daemon active for an Online engine? If inetd was used then we could control connecting hosts via the /usr/adm/inetd.sec file. This might also mean that we could have a I-Star request active but then disable others (which might be useful during times of panic). We also wouldn't have to edit /etc/rc if we setup a new Online instance. Please email responses directly and I'll summarise _______________________________________________________ Andy Calverley Internet: andy@dcc.govt.nz Database Administrator Technical Support Management Information Systems Dunedin City Council PO Box 5045, Dunedin, New Zealand
