INFORMIX ANNOUNCES ENHANCEMENTS TO INFORMIX-NEW ERA MOTIF VERSION NOW AVAILABLE INFORMIX-SE Database Server Included with Development Tool New York City, NY, (April 3, 1995) -- Informix Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:IFMX) today made several announcements at the Application Development Conference in New York, regarding its object-oriented client/server development tool, INFORMIX(R)-NewEra(TM). The product enhancements announced are intended to provide developers with a more flexible, portable and cost-effective development environment for creating client/server applications. Today Informix announced: -The immediate availability of INFORMIX-NewEra for the UNIX platform. The Motif version includes the same features and functionality as the Microsoft Windows version, including NewEra's high-level programming language, and set of visual programming tools. -The company will now include a copy of its INFORMIX-SE database with every full development copy of NewEra for Windows or UNIX at no additional charge. The combined product set will give developers a convenient, complete, and cost-effective environment for developing NewEra applications. INFORMIX-SE for Windows and UNIX is also available separately. -NewEra now supports Intersolv's PVCS Version Manager, a component of Intersolv's software configuration management software, on the Windows platform. PVCS Version Manager improves the team development capabilities of NewEra by allowing project teams to automate the version control process required for successful team development projects. -Pricing for both the Windows and UNIX versions of NewEra has been restructured in order to better meet customers' specific deployment needs. The revised pricing now allows customers to purchase only the specific deployment modules they need. Previously, customers had to purchase deployment bundles, which included ODBC drivers, INFORMIX-SE database, connectivity, and NewEra runtimes. "These enhancements to NewEra are targeted to help our customers take advantage of a flexible, open and well integrated development environment that is also cost-effective," said Geoff Roach, director of product marketing, application development tools for Informix. "The release of our UNIX version provides additional portability for organizations using Motif desktop environments. The integraton of PVCS Version Manager extends the team development capabilities and scalabilty of NewEra." Today, a wide range of customers are using NewEra to create graphical applications for enterprisewide deployment.
