perform master/detail?
Posted in 1996
When selecting the "DETAIL" option on a form where there is a master- detail relationship, the manual says: "...PERFORM automatically runs a query on the detail table, using the current values in the fields in the master table that join the fields in the detail table as search values, and puts the rows that satisfy the query condition in the detail table's current list." What control, if any, do I have on the order of the rows returned in this "detail" search? I have the Master Table joined to the Detail Table using only a unique serial index column in the master. The Detail Table may contain multiple rows with the same master-serial number but each of these rows has it's own unique detail-serial number. I have tried multiple combinations of indexing, etc. but the order of the returned detail rows seems to ignore anything I do. I would like the "NEXT" option to respond with an ordered sequence that I can control or predict. Having selected the "DETAIL" option, if I then run a "QUERY" on the joining column, the returned detail list IS ordered by the indexing I have chosen and the "NEXT/PREVIOUS" options step through the ordered list as I want. However, I would like to avoid this additional "QUERY" step. Any help/advice appreciated!
