This is my problem: I installed both Informix SE & 4GL on linux. If linux is a 2.0.36 kernel and 2.0.7 glibc, no problem, all works ok. But now I watn to install then over 2.2.10 kernel and 2.1.1 and the problems begin to appear... If I have in sqlhosts file the long name of the machine (name.domain), then I have a trasnport error, and can't see any database. If I put then in sqlhosts the short name (only name, without domain), all seems to be ok, but compiled programs get me "segmentation fault" error. Does anybody why does informix don't work fine with new linux? The linux I installed are redhat 5.2 (where it works) and SuSE 6.2 (where it doesn't) thx to all. Greetings from Spain, Jose.

I'll assume you're talking about Informix 7.30 on Linux. For SuSE, go to their website, download all the RPMs in the "d1" <Dee-one> directory, and install each one you see, <gasp> with the rpm program or as I do, use kpackage to do it. Kpackage is not installed by default, you have to manually check it off in the YaST tool and install it. It will ease the nightmare of RPMs but does not offer the opportunity to do much else beyond the default install. After applying the RPMs, you need to change the c4gl compiler script thusly: # CC=${CC:-cc} <---- this is what it comes as CC=${CC:-i386-glibc20-linux-gcc} <---- this will fix your problem Recompile all your 4GL and ESQLC programs and you should be done. I had exactly the same problem as you are experiencing and now do not have the problem. BTW, the solution came from somebody in Australia, not Informix. It fixes the problem on SuSE, but anything RedHat I stay away from if at all possible.
