Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Dynamic Informix asked how to change Unix environment variables inside dbaccess without quitting. Everett Mills said changes to INFORMIXSQLHOSTS or INFORMIXSERVER need a restart, but another server can be reached with the DATABASE name@server statement. Art Kagel confirmed it cannot be done and urged posters to state the real problem.

What are trying to accomplish? If you need to change your
$INFORMIXSQLHOSTS or $INFORMIXSERVER and have it affect your current
session, then no, you must restart dbaccess. If you just want to attach
to a different server, just make sure the other server is available in
you sqlhosts file and use SQL:
database my_other_database@my_other_server
--EEM

You cannot, but some of what you may be wanting to do can be done other ways.
What is it you want to be able to change?
General to the list: PLEASE post your problem. Don't ask how to implement the
solution you thought of that you can't make work. It wastes bandwidth and
almost never gets you the answer you need on the first try.
