Upgrade from 9.4 to 11.10
Posted in 2009
Current environment:
HP rp5405 (4 PA-8700 650MHz CPUs), 8GB ram, 4 drives (2 mirrored for
O/S, 2 mirrored for my Informix DB so only 1 spindle to work with)
HPUX 11.11
IDS 9.4FC3
We are getting an upgrade to 11.10FC2W4 (we don't get to choose
versions) and the onconfig parameters have changed some and I want to
ensure we are both using good parameter values overall and good
parameter values for the hardware we have (primarily are we using memory
to our fullest advantage). This server's only function is the Informix
DB. It only has 1 instance with 1 production DB and 4 copies of that DB
for development and testing usage. We only use ontape for our backups
(to a remote file system mount). All dbspaces are raw and we use
symbolic links to reference the actual devices.
I have listed our existing 9.4 onconfig as well as our proposed 11.10
onconfig. We are primarily OLTP during day and then run many DSS style
queries/mass updates via cron nightly. Our focus is to ensure the OLTP
performs well, if the DSS suffers, that is OK, we aren't running into
any issues with tasks not completing before next business day.
Any thoughts and/or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I
will gladly provide any additional info that you may want/need (if I
know how to get it, I am not truly an IDS DBA or HPUX SA, but I have
managed to keep it running so far).
