Networking Informix-SE7 and WindowsNT/SQL-Server6

We've been moderately successful in making connections between
two Sparc/Solaris2.4/Informix-SE7 machines, so that dbaccess on
machine A can talk to database on machine B. Ok, so it sounds easy
until you come to read the manuals.
Then, we defined a port so that an Intel/Win-NT/SQl-Server-6 machine
could try and talk to the Inf-SE server, but all we got were errors
(but they did *try* and talk). Also, we tried it the other way
round and the NT box reported login failures.
According to both Informix and Frontline's Informix Hotline, we
need something called I-Net, or "ESQL/I-Net for Windows NT".
The manuals make occasional references to I-Star and I-Net,
though there's no one place these are actually defined (I've been
trying to use the administrators manual) and discussed. A search
on the Informix WWW site has helped slightly.
Please can someone confirm that (a) this is what we really want
(b) does something useful
Thanks for any helpful hints and ideas
Paul
