However, you can run Informix on a Unix machine that is networked to the AS/400. I had customers whose primary machine was the AS/400. I ran a token ring network cable between an IBM RISC 6000 and the AS/400 network. Using a telnet program on the AS/400, you can connect to the Unix machine and run Informix. The main problem was differences in keyboards and that fact that the AS/400 terminal communicates with its host using block mode transaction rather than character mode transaction. What I did was to use the telnet program on the AS/400 to reprogram the function keys on the AS/400 terminal. We were trying to allow users to access a perform screen and we placed the codes that exist on the perform ring menu under function keys of the AS/400. It worked fairly well.
