Will there be much of a learning >curve ? > Harry, The use of "4GL" has been used in the past to refer to basically two kinds of products, one being the INFORMIX 4GL programming language, the other being an interface, like Rally on VMS, or Progress, which does have its' own report writer, and other interface products that do not allow the programmer access to the source code. There are others, and newer versions of some of these products have both the language and the menu-interface. Exposure to these products can help programmers understand the application development process greatly. Accell had one of the best menu-orientated "4GL" interfaces on the planet. Unfortunately they just don't get out much. :-) If someone tells you they've been using a 4GL, ask them if it's a menu-oriented program builder, with/without access to source code, or if it's a programming language, like INFORMIX 4GL. >Also, are there any trade publications or associations where I might seek more >Informix 4GL experts ?
