Re: "bad primary chunk" with temporary dbspace
Posted in 1996
We have been experiencing similar problems under 7.12 and have
corrected them by modifying the actual dbspace name within the roodbs.
Determine if your dbspace name is bad by doing the following:
do an 'oncheck -pP 1 4 | pg' . This will dump the page for chunck 1
( where rootdbs resides ) page 4. The output should be similar to the
following:
addr stamp nslots flag type frptr frcnt next prev
100004 1131813584 3 1000 ROOTRSV 228 1804 0 0

In the example above, our problem was in the 'ificstmp' dbspace name.
If the dbspace name has anything other than a space (20) before or
after it, then you have a problem. We were consitantly getting a null
right after the dbspace name and had to write a program which would
read the contents of the device, look for the dpspace name and check for
anything other than a space before or after the name. If a space was
not found, we would replace it with one.
Informix can dial up and correct this for you or you can write a c
program like the one we did to modify the dbspace name.
oh, bring the engine down before attempting any of this. I recomend
that Informix dials up and corrects this for you. If you have a test
box to try this, then have fun.
