ANNOUNCE: Vacant Job Positions
Posted in 1996
Clearly opinions differ as do local customs The issue at the end of the day is whether the candidate can do the job for which he is being interviewed or not. This can only be determined on two points: 1. Has he done it before 2. Will he have done it in three months There is no other way of telling except to take up references where appropriate and to monitor the progress of the individual. Chris Pearon has made some interesting comments in defence of the degree. Certainly much of the information that can be obtained from a university is good theory. IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOU CAN DO THE JOB IN THE REAL WORLD !! Theory is good where is application is clear. It is not good where it leads to arrogance ( a general comment Chris ) or a I know better attitude On the other hand experience can lead to knowledge of the areas mentioned by Chris where the person applies himself properly In conclusion: I have learnt much from people with degrees. The theory has been more than a passing interest, and having come from a poor family ( all donations readily accepted ) I cherish the chance to have this knowledge passed on to me. However in common with many others in this industry I have taught volumes to graduates who simply cannot perceive the reasons why and have grown to have a very closed mind attitude. We all have value LET'S STOP BICKERING !! ================================================================ Terry Boyland :^{}) Proverb: Once a king always a king But once a knight is enough !
