ESQL/COBOL system linking
Posted in 1994
We are using a general ledger system that must link into our INFORMIX accounting database. This general ledger system uses a COBOL program to create the intermediate processing files. They refuse to port the program to C and we have now been forced to modify their program to access our databse. Therfore we must use ESQL/COBOL. System specs: HP-UX A.09.00 U 9000/897 super-mini running HP's version of UNIX 4.3 BSD. ESQL-COBOL version 5.02.UC1 Our problem: In order to run a program static-linked, the ESQL manuals tell you to creeate an RTS using "makerun". The general ledger system is currently linking to this program, so we cannot run our compiled code through the RTS. What do we have to do to link the program into the ledger system? Basically, when we compile the program through "esqlcobol" the system linker claims not to be able to find the ESQL function calls "eco_*". They get listed as undefined symbols. Is there a way to get these functions passed to the system linker (ld) so the final output code can run on it's own? Michael Hoffman P.s. - I am pretty new to INFORMIX and UNIX, but have been programming in COBOL for a number of years, so please try to talk in layman's terms (and PLEASE no laughter at using COBOL under UNIX... I dont't know why, I just work here).
