When you say you "lost" a table, do you mean it became unreadable? Had you restored? Can you tell me some more details, please. How were your logs not up to date? I have had situations where I had to restore, but my logical logs tapes were unreadable. In that case, I restored what I could, and was able to recreate data from a transaction log generated by our application. We ran these transaction through our dialtip as if the agent interface had created them. I doubt this would be of much help to you. Since running into the problems with unreadable tapes (1/4 cartridge), we have our operators check every tape with dd and/or tblog. This checks only readability, not content, but helps. I have also switched to using DAT drives for logging, as they seem to be much more reliable. I have never been able to pull small pieces out of the log, and just recreate that data. Even more frustrating, is not having the ability, when tape 27 of 39 is bad, to recreate just that much data. Typically, I was restoring from an archive because we had overflowed our logs or lock table. In this case, after bringing the engine offline and back up again, it looped forever in recovery. Informix has regency tools that they can use to tell the engine to bypass the information in the logs. -- Naomi Walker (aka N7FSA) naomi@anasazi.com Phoenix, Arizona To get the full value of joy, you must have someone to divide it with. ---Mark Twain
